The Interstellar Butterfly

I thought it best to include a page to explain the meaning behind the name of the blog. Believe it or not, I worked on the name myself before knowing that there was such a thing as an 'interstellar butterfly'. I originally opted for the name as it combines two topics that interest me, space and butterflies.

A butterfly to me represents rebirth, growth, learning and evolving whilst space is a concept so vast, it fascinates me. I combined the two concepts together to represent how I would like this blog to be - a space to learn, grow and fascinate readers.

A butterfly is a quiet, fragile being, which I believe represents myself - a shy, timid person. Space on the other hand appears magical and entrancing, and, well, we are all fascinated by magic aren't we?

The 'interstellar' part was inspired by my love for stars. Interstellar, as defined by Cambridge dictionary (online) is a place 'between the stars'. The adjective reminded me of a quote by Norman Vincent Peale: 'Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars', a quote I have loved for many years and has taught me that if you have a goal you haven't quite yet reached or find impossible, everything else you do along the way is a small success to getting you to where you want to be.

An 'interstellar' butterfly, as described by esahubble.org is a 'nebula known as AFGL 4104, or Roberts 22. Caused by a star that is nearing the end of its life and has shrugged off its outer layers, the nebula emerges as a cosmic chrysalis' in order to produce a phenomenon that closely resembles that of a butterfly.'
